This work was produced to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. The figure in the top hat, an early, old fashioned cricketing gentleman with an old type of bat, represents George III, the previously longest reigning British monarch. Beside him is a modern cricketer, representing the reign of Queen Victoria, celebrating '60 not out'.
