In celebration of England's magnificent run chase and victory against India at Headingley this week, our Beetles Choice is Jack Russell's wonderful portrait of the famous Anglo-Indian cricketer, Ranjitsinhji.
Born in Kathiawar in the British Indian Empire in 1872, Ranjitsinhji first travelled to England to study at Trinity College, Cambridge. After developing a love and talent for cricket while in England, Ranjitsinhji became one of the greatest batsmen of his era, featuring in over 300 first class games for Cambridge University, Sussex and London County. He also played 15 Tests for England between 1896 and 1902, scoring two centuries.
After returning to India, he became ruler of his native state of Nawanagar from 1907 until his death in 1933.
