'This is from Senate House, which is part of the University of London. Its near Tottenham Court Road and it’s a really, really tall building. At one point, it was supposed to be the tallest building in London. I’ve always looked at it and thought there must be amazing views up there. I randomly plucked up the courage to email whoever I found on the list and said ‘Could I please come and paint the view?’ And I was just so lucky. It was a young woman who did a bit of painting herself. And when I went there they were so nice, they said that I could be an artist in residence. It turned out that in the tower part of the building, the windows were frosted over and the corridors of bookshelves were very narrow, and you just couldn’t go all the way up there with an easel and paints. So they let me paint the view from the actual library ... '
