'Finished this painting looking out of the window on the stairs leading up to my flat, imagining myself perched on the roof terrace drawing, and of course had to include my old dog Joey as if he was in my neighbours garden. I realised recently that part of the reason I’ve been painting out around London a lot more in the last few years is because I didn’t really like being in my home without Joey, he was such a huge part of my life for 12 years. But I am enjoying the freedom of going out and not having to worry to get back to him, and painting all the far off places in London I couldn’t go to before. Joey is with me in spirit!'
